F/16

This will probably shock some of you but I have been shooting film over here. Yes, yes, don't panic. It's only with my little Leica M6.

I only shoot sunny f/16 though. All of my shots are shot at that rating. So even if its cloudy, the shutter speed is 1/60 (I'm shooting Kodakhrome 64 right now. Two weeks ago it was Plus-X 125) and F/8 or /5.6.

So I'm out tooling around northwest Baggers this morning with the Iraqi army and their American advisors. We stop and do what the military calls a "snap traffic control point." I hope out and take a few snaps with my Nikon D2H of soldiers searching cars and talking to locals. I saw the shuuter speed was close to my ASA of 320 so I click down and adjust so everyting's lined up.... f/8 at 1/320th.

This little experiment of mine isn't new. I have done it before . The  first time was in Mosul this last September. The sun was brilliantly hot that day. The results were mixed. But today's snaps were passable. On the way back, sitting in the Humvee, I decided to keep shooting at sunny f/16. Sure, I like shooting at ASA 320, f/5.6 at 1/1250 - 2000th. But the old guys shot at Sunny, so why not me?
